Finding Strength in Life’s Difficulties: Embracing the Journey with Clarity and Grace
I’m embarrassed to admit that I didn’t really understand or accept the above truth until about five years ago, four decades into my life. Up until then, I walked around with a subconscious resentment towards my life, always thinking that it should be easier. I also mistakenly believed that other people had it easier than I did. This mindset kept me in a victim/martyr mentality that I wasn’t even aware of until I became a coach.
It was humbling to see the childish errors in my thinking, but it was a very important discovery and well worth the discomfort. I felt relieved to understand the true nature of life, that as well as being really beautiful and meaningful, life was also difficult. I stopped expecting it to be different than it was. This allowed me to be more present and embrace the inherent beauty and power of the moment just as it is. I experienced that when I stopped fighting, resisting, or wanting to change the present moment, I could actually create it! Life didn’t necessarily become easier, but it became more easeful as I learned to focus and channel my energy in ways that were authentic to me and made the contribution to life I wanted to make.
I Affirm: Today I rejoice in the fact that life is difficult. I notice this paradox creates more clarity, focus, ease and grace in my life.
