Goals are like destinations on a map. Will your roads shift and change as you work toward your destination? Absolutely. One of the defining principles of physical reality is uncertainty. So variables you didn’t anticipate when you set your goal will pop up. This is totally normal and part of the journey. When you truly embrace uncertainty, you will become much more gentle with yourself and life when life starts “lifeing.”
While uncertainty is inevitable, how you respond to it can make all the difference. Instead of focusing on the unpredictability of life, you can choose to shift your attention inward and anchor yourself in what you can control—your strengths and values.
Our brain tends to focus on obstacles and perceived weaknesses, trying to fix them or avoid them sometimes in the form of compulsive behaviors. Most of us aren’t even aware of what our strengths are or what we truly value. Everything changes when we identify what our strengths and values are and then shift our focus there.
So the next step is then creating goals that you can break down into smaller, more achievable actions that align with your highest values and strengths.
When your mind tries to fixate on problems and perceived weaknesses, keep turning it toward solutions, your strengths, your values, and your goals.
Focusing on your strengths is not arrogance; it’s an acknowledgment of who you are and what you’re here to contribute to others.
