60-Second Mind Shift: The Reward of Hard Things - A Path to an Easier Life

Supporting you to free your mind so you can live from your heart!

“If you are willing to do only what’s easy, life will be hard. But if you are willing to do what’s hard, life will be easy.”

The Reward of Hard Things: A Path to an Easier Life

Ever wonder why you can’t stop scrolling on social media or binge-watching Netflix or YouTube? It’s not because you’re lazy—it’s because, to your brain, this feels effortless and efficient. There’s no energy expenditure and the reward is immediate.

When we consume instead of create, we lock ourselves into a cycle of passive stimulation. Platforms are designed to deliver variably timed dopamine hits, keeping us hooked and inducing learned helplessness—the belief that we can’t change or take control.

Choosing to do the hard things—like creating, deciding, initiating, learning, or building—shifts us from passive consumption to active creation. But our brains resist this because it invites uncertainty and lacks the promise of an immediate reward. We’ve all had the thought: What if I give it my all and nothing comes of it? This is your brain seducing you into resignation, convincing you to settle for the “easy life.”

Yet, as the saying goes, no risk, no reward.

I Affirm: Today I will take one action that feels hard. After completing it, I’ll notice if it was easier than I expected.

Step By Step,

Jessie
